s’Illot in Mallorca – what you need to know?

S’Illot is a small town on the north-eastern coast of Majorca. It is offering a pleasant, sandy beach and a selection of mid- and low-budget hotels, making it an affordable place for a quiet holiday. The area has a lot to offer. First of all, well-developed public transport makes travelling easy! TIB buses will take you directly to the airport, the capital, surrounding towns and other regions of the island in a relatively short time.

Within a 15-minute walk from S’Illot is the beautiful bay of Cala Morlanda. You can also visit the blue flag sandy beach of Sa Coma, ideal for beach lovers and water sports.

The town itself offers a clean beach, a small local port, numerous restaurants serving both local and international cuisine. It also has several bars and pubs where you can relax with a drink in the evening. An additional attraction is the ruins of the ancient settlement of Talaiots. Those are fascinating archaeological site, once inhabited by the first settlers of Mallorca, located opposite the Mariant Hotel.

On the beach in S’Illot you can rent paddle boards (SUP), which allows you to enjoy water activities and admire the coast from a different perspective. The beach is also a great place for snorkeling, providing crystal clear waters and a wealth of marine life. S’Illot is the perfect place for those looking for peace, beautiful views and easy access to local attractions.

Pros S’Illot:

  1. Peaceful atmosphere – S’Illot is a small town, ideal for those looking to relax away from the crowds. It is not as crowded as the popular resorts, which is conducive to relaxation and peaceful walks.

  5. Communication and transport – Thanks to the well-developed public transport and tourist trains, you can easily get to nearby towns and attractions, such as Cala Millor, Cala Bona, or Safari Zoo (with free transport), and even Cala Ratjada or Arta.

Cons S’Illot:

  1. Limited entertainment – S’Illot is quiet and peaceful, which means that the nightlife and number of clubs are limited. Younger people looking for a more dynamic atmosphere may feel unsatisfied.
  2. Smaller shopping options – The town does not offer as many shops and shopping centres as larger resorts. Shopping needs to be planned with fewer shops in mind, although there is a huge pedestrian street with shops and souvenirs just next door in the town of Sa Coma (15 minutes walk).
  3. Less varied dining options – Although you will find restaurants, bars and ice cream parlours in S’Illot, the range of cuisines may be less varied than in larger tourist towns.
  4. Lack of major tourist attractions – S’Illot is a more secluded place, with no major monuments or amusement parks, making it more suitable for a shorter stay or as a base for trips to nearby attractions, compared to the capital and its surroundings, for example.
  5. Limited number of water attractions on the beach – Compared to neighbouring towns, such as Sa Coma, the range of water sports here is less extensive, which may be a disadvantage for those looking for an active holiday.

S’Illot is a pleasant town for those looking for a quiet holiday in a charming setting, but it may not please everyone in terms of available entertainment and variety.
