How to get to Formentera?

As soon as I told my followers about me being on Formentera, there were a bunch of “how to get to Formentera?” questions. Well I am rushing to answer! Formentera is a very small island that is literally a few kilometers from Ibiza, the third largest island in the Balearic archipelago. There is no airport on this tiny island, so you can get to it only by sea, additionally only by sailing from Ibiza (there is also a direct ferry option from Denia in Spain).

Ferries to Formentera:

There are a few companies that provide passenger transportation from Ibiza to Formentera and they are:
– Mediterránea Pitiusa: (tel. 971 32 24 43):  www.medpitiusa.net
– Trasmapi: (tel. 971 31 44 33 | 971 32 27 03): www.trasmapi.com
– Baleària: (tel. 912 66 02 15 | 971 31 20 71): www.balearia.com
– Aquabus: Ferry Ibiza Formentera: www.aquabusferryboats.com

We used the cheapest option, which was the water bus, Aquabus. As we are residents of the Balearic Islands, our ride was discounted. The departure and return times from Formentera were also very attractive. We departed at 10 a.m. and returned at 6 p.m. This was enough time to visit the highlights, have lunch and relax on one of the paradise beaches. However, if we had the opportunity to stay longer, we would definitely choose to stay overnight in Formentera and spend at least 3 days there. This is definitely enough to go around the island and take advantage of all the attractions it offers.

What is the cheapest way to buy tickets to Formentera?

In truth, the cheapest tickets are offered in the off-season. That is, from November to the end of April. Then the prices go up significantly. Attractive prices are offered for residents of the Balearic Islands, who have discounts for travel within Spain. However, if you are not a resident, I recommend you to plan your trip under the prices, that is, first find the cheapest options offered by carriers in a given period and based on them buy accommodation and flights to Ibiza. This way you will save on ferry fares. A good approach is also to regularly check the offer on the carrier’s website, which can sometimes throw in promotions.

I hope that I helped you a little bit to clarify the situation related to getting to this beautiful paradise island. Unfortunately, it’s not the cheapest attraction, but I guarantee you that once you land on the first beach – it will make it all up to you.
