Porreres in Mallorca
Porreres in Mallorca is a medium-sized town that is located in the central part of the island. It is famous for its apricot cultivation, agriculture, crafts and typical Mallorcan architectural style. Porreres is not only the name of the town, but also of a region in Mallorca. Residents of Mallorca appreciate this place for the local, fresh and original cuisine. It is worth coming here to taste the local products and meet the people of this region who celebrate and make the most of the good things that their region gives them.
This is where the best apricots in Mallorca come from, so called “albaricoque” – I immediately have to recommend you to try the tarta de albaricoque, which is my favorite cake. There is a local market every Tuesday from 9.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. This town is also famous for its lavish celebrations of local holidays, festivals, and best of all, every year there is an apricot festival – how else.
What to do in Porreres in Mallorca and what to see in the area?
I’ve listed a few of the sights above, but Porreres is definitely worth eating in. You won’t be disappointed if you choose one of the local restaurants for dinner. While in town, make sure to visit the church “de Nuestra Señora de la Consolación” built in the 17th century, the “museo de Porreres” and the “pozes publicos” which are old, well-preserved public wells which are quite numerous in Porreres.
The region also has a large number of “molinos de viento”, or wind-powered mills. Some better and some worse preserved, but this is a characteristic element of Mallorca’s landscape. Near the village there is also a sanctuary – obviously located on a hill named “Santuario de Montesion”. In the area it is worth visiting such places as: Felanitx, Montuiri and located a little further away Santanyi. The closest beaches and bays worth seeing are: Platja Es Trenc, Calo des Moro, or Cala Llombards.
I am curious about your opinion about this place. Have you ever been in Porreres in Mallorca? Have you tried the local apricots? Do you recommend visiting this place or would you rather skip it a second time? I recommend visiting this town if you want to get to know the local gastronomic side of Mallorca.
