Can Picafort in Majorca is a nice, touristic town on the north on the island. What brings the most attention here is the sculpture part, created by Joan Bennassar. They are mainly female figures, goddesses and fairies who “talk to nature and the sea”, recalling the ancient Mediterranean civilizations. The pedestrian area is also wide and leads across the entire beach. A very pleasant place that is worth visiting or even choosing for your vacation if you count on quieter zones.
It has three demographic centers: Santa Margalida, Can Picafort and Son Serra de Marina. Can Picafort is the main city with the largest number of inhabitants and visitors. It is the most important tourist center of the region. It is characterized by delicate pine dunes. The landscape is characterized by dry arable land, cereals and almonds. Also, people who appreciate the closeness of nature, peace and quiet on vacation.
Can Picafort in Majorca and its history
Can Picafort in Majorca is the municipality with the largest number of archaeological sites on the island. Prehistoric remains that stand out are: Talaiot Sa Nineta, Es Figueral de Son Real, Sa Punta des patrón and the funeral circle Son Bauló. The most important places are the necropolis of Son Real and illa des Porros. The story begins just over a hundred years ago, when some wealthy families in Santa Margalida decided to build their summer homes in the area. Jeroni Fuster “Picafort” is one of the people who started the development of this area. So come here if you love to explore places from the historical side!
In the early 1970s, Can Picafort was a small fishing village with 200 inhabitants. Over time, the city was transformed into a resort with thousands of hotel spaces. The Son Bauló district is a small protected natural area called Son Real, in which you can see many wildlife, such as sea turtles, red pheasants, hares, rabbits, weasels, dormice and Algerian hedgehogs. Important archaeological sites are located in this area. Most of them come from before Roman times. The most famous are the Royal Necropolis or Phoenician Cemetery.
Is Can Picafrot in Majorca worht visiting?
Especially for people who value peace and relaxation. It seems to be a place that values art, culture and tradition. There is something to visit and eat in the area. There is a place to sunbathe! In addition, Can Picafort is located on a beautiful coastline. That is why it is easy to get to Alcudia, for example. There are many more attractions and beautiful beaches there! I would definitely recommend this place, especially since it is cheaper than the great Alcudia. It is close to the beautiful Playa de Muro beach. You should also visit Cala na Clara, Arta, Ermita de Betlem, or such places like Formentor, Pollensa and Cala St Vicenc.
