Sant Elm in Mallorca

Sant Elm in Mallorca is a very small fishing town. It is located on the south west of the island. This town despite its size attracts a lot of tourists. During off-season weekends there are a lot of people here. What attracts the most here are beautiful views, great restaurants, super climate and a beautiful sunset.

It’s hard not to mention the island of La Dragonera here, which you can of course see from the coast of Sant Elm. I recommend going here for sunset because it looks unearthly, and the best thing is if you sit in one of the restaurants overlooking the Dragonera. It is from here that excursions are made to the famous island, the area of which is a protected natural park.

The town is named after the patron saint of sailors. This town is quite hard to define, it has its own unique atmosphere that is hard to replicate. My attention was caught by the beautifully carved trees in the main square, which remind me a little of the atmosphere in Greece. And also very clean and crystal clear water. There are several restaurants, several hotels and a few souvenir and handicraft shops.

Walking along the promenade, there are benches installed on the left hand side at vantage points, with wonderful views of the sea. One of the lookout points leads to a small cove, which you will see in the photos below! I highly recommend this place, I fell in love!

Sant Elm in Mallorca is the town that is furthest south-west.

Due to its location, the town has always been exposed to attacks by pirates and countries eager to conquer Majorca. Sant Elm was a strategic point on the island and King Jaume concentrated his fleets here in the 13th century. Dragonera Island, on the other hand, was once attacked by pirates and even settled. Perhaps you know the pirate “Barbarossa”? Yes, he is the one we are talking about, he was the perpetrator of one of the raids on the Mallorca area.

To get to the town, you have to travel a few kilometres along somewhat winding roads. There are several coves and a beach. Cala Es Terrer – a rocky cove with a view of the tiny island of Sa Mitjana. Another small bay, also rocky – Cala S’Algar. The main, sandy and guarded beach – Platja des Geperut. Another tiny beach – Playa Dragonera and a bigger bay – Cala Conills, which I recommend to see. It’s also worth climbing the Sa Torre tower, located near the main beach des Geperut.
