Cales de Mallorca in Mallorca – everything you need to know

Cales de Mallorca in Mallorca is one of the most popular destinations on the east coast of the island, which tempts tourists with its picturesque landscape and affordable prices. This place is often chosen by people who are looking for peace, relaxation and beautiful beaches, but at the same time do not want to overpay for a holiday on this Spanish island. What makes Cales de Mallorca so popular, and what attractions await visitors?

Why choose Cales de Mallorca?

This town, although small, has a lot to offer. First of all, the picturesque bays are worthy of attention – Cala Domingos, Cala Domingos Petit and Cala Antena. Each of them delights with turquoise waters and surrounding cliffs, which create a fairy-tale landscape. The beaches are well developed – you will find beach bars, showers, toilets, sunbed and umbrella rentals, as well as lifeguard booths, which makes it an ideal place for families with children. In the summer, however, it is worth preparing for a large number of tourists.

Cales de Mallorca in Mallorca is also a good base for those who want to combine a beach holiday with active sightseeing on the island. The town offers pleasant walking paths along the cliffs and quiet promenades, which encourage evening walks at sunset.

Entertainment and attractions in Cales de Mallorca

Despite its intimacy, Cales de Mallorca is full of life. You will find numerous restaurants, bars and souvenir shops here. Local restaurants serve Spanish cuisine, but due to the variety of tourists, you will also find international classics on the menu. This is a place where evenings can be spent on terraces overlooking the sea, strolling along the seaside promenades.

For families with children, there are mini amusement parks in the area that will keep the little ones entertained for a few hours. Adults can try their hand at water sports – from diving to paddleboarding. The area around Cales de Mallorca in Majorca also offers attractions for families, such as Dinosaurland, or the Hams or Drach caves. Additionally, daily cruises depart from Cala Domingos Bay, which will allow you to explore the many bays in the area from sea level!

Practical information – transport and location

It is worth knowing that Cales de Mallorca is a bit off the beaten track. Although there is public transport, buses run mainly in the area and to larger towns such as Manacor and Porto Cristo, but connections to other places leave much to be desired. If you are planning to explore further afield in Mallorca, the best solution is to rent a car.

Without a car, you can visit nearby attractions such as Cuevas del Drach or Cuevas del Hams in Porto Cristo, but getting to the northern or western ends of the island will be quite a challenge. Renting a car gives you the opportunity to discover hidden beaches and lesser-known corners of the island.

Beaches and landscapes – the essence of Cales de Mallorca

The beaches in Cales de Mallorca are a real magnet for tourists. Each of the bays – Cala Domingos, Cala Domingos Petit and Cala Antena – offers a slightly different experience. Cala Domingos is the largest and most popular beach, ideal for families with children thanks to its gentle descent into the water. Cala Domingos Petit is more intimate, while Cala Antena tempts with a wilder climate, but also with great conditions for snorkeling.

The cliffs surrounding the beaches create a natural amphitheater that attracts photography enthusiasts. It is worth taking a walk along the trails along the coast, from where there are breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea.

Cales de Mallorca Beaches

Cala Antena in Mallorca

Cala Antena in Mallorca is one of those beaches that can impress with its charm. Although I have come across many beautiful beaches during my intensive exploration of the island, Cala Antena still holds a special place in my heart. To reach Cala Antena, you have to climb a few dozen stairs, but the effort is worth it. After going down, you will discover a charming medium-sized beach covered with fine sand. There are umbrellas and sun loungers on the beach, providing a comfortable place to rest and relax. You don’t have to worry about thirst or hunger, because there is a bar on site, where you can taste refreshing drinks or snacks, and the area has a lot of shops to choose from.

However, the real magic moment at Cala Antena is a walk along the promenade that leads along the cliffs. Especially in the evening, during sunset, this picturesque path offers amazing views and atmosphere. There is a sense of peace and harmony there, and the gentle sound of the waves and the smell of the sea breeze make it an ideal place for a romantic walk or a moment of contemplation.

Cala Domingos and Cala Domingos Petits in Mallorca

Cala Domingos and Cala Domingos Petits are definitely my favorites when it comes to Cales de Mallorca. The layout of these two bays is great. From the Cala Domingos promenade we have a view of both of these beaches. The water is incredibly blue and contrasts with the sandy cliffs. In the summer, umbrellas and sunbeds are laid out on the beach. There is also a restaurant, toilets and a lifeguard booth. The beaches are medium-sized, both sandy and beautiful. I recommend!

In the summer, umbrellas and sunbeds are available on the beaches, providing comfort and relaxation for visitors. Additionally, on the beaches there is a restaurant where you can stop for a meal, toilets and a lifeguard booth, taking care of safety on the beach.

Both beaches, Cala Domingos and Cala Domingos Petits, are medium-sized, but fully reflect the beauty of this place. Sandy shores and crystal clear water create an atmosphere of extraordinary harmony and peace. It’s the perfect place to soak up the sun, swim or enjoy a walk along the shore.

Cala Murada in Mallorca

Cala Murada in Mallorca, although it may not have a spectacular charm, has its own unique features that are worth appreciating. This place offers facilities such as parking, restaurants and toilets, which allow you to spend time on the beach comfortably. One of the unique aspects of Cala Murada is the fact that the beach is surrounded by cliffs. This setting creates a unique atmosphere and provides a bit of privacy, which is perfect for those who value peace and intimacy.

During my visit to Cala Murada, I also noticed another positive aspect – the beach is protected from the wind due to its location. This allows you to sunbathe freely and enjoy the warmth of the sun without any obstacles. It is an ideal place for those who love to relax and unwind in a peaceful atmosphere. There is also a charming canal near the beach, where you can meet and feed ducks. This is a nice addition for those who want to enjoy contact with nature and watch local birds.

Another interesting element of Cala Murada is the building carved into the rock, which can be freely explored. This extraordinary place offers not only a visual experience, but also the opportunity to discover interesting local attractions. However, what distinguishes Cala Murada from other places in Mallorca are the colorful houses that can be seen on the left side of the beach. This picturesque setting gives this place a unique charm and creates an atmosphere that is rarely found on the island.

The area around Cala Murada is quiet and peaceful, making it an ideal place for those looking for a vacation away from the crowds of tourists. It is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse yourself in the peaceful surroundings of nature.

What to do around Cales de Mallorca?

You already know what the situation is like in the town of Cales de Mallorca in Majorca, surrounded by three beautiful bays. However, you have to know that the area also has a lot to offer – from DIVINE wild bays such as Cala Varques or Cala Magraner, to the town of Porto Cristo with mysterious caves. Here are a few recommendations:

Cala Magraner

For lovers of nature and peace, Cala Magraner is the perfect choice. This wild bay, surrounded by cliffs, offers turquoise waters and a silence that is missing in more popular places. The lack of services, such as bars or toilets, means that the place has preserved its natural character. It takes about 50 minutes to get there, which makes it less crowded, but also more demanding for tourists.

Cala Varques

Like Cala Magraner, Cala Varques is a wild bay where nature plays the main role. The narrow, sandy beach is surrounded by impressive cliffs, and its waters are perfect for snorkeling. You will not find any facilities here – no sunbeds, bars or lifeguards. It takes about 20-30 minutes to get there on foot through a path through the forest.

Cala Anguila

Cala Anguila is one of the more accessible beaches in the area, ideal for families with children. The gentle slope into the crystal clear water, sandy bottom and full infrastructure (bars, sunbeds, toilets) make it a popular place for a relaxing day by the sea.

Cala Mandia

Right next to Cala Anguila is Cala Mendia, a slightly larger and also very well-organized beach. Thanks to its calm waters and proximity to hotels, it is often visited by tourists. Surrounded by cliffs, you can not only relax here, but also admire the picturesque views.

Cala Romántica

As its name suggests, Cala Romántica is a place that captivates with its charm. A wide beach with fine, white sand and crystal clear waters invites you to relax. It is a popular place for families and couples, offering tourist infrastructure and easy access.

Porto Cristo

Porto Cristo is a charming port town with a beautiful marina and a wide range of restaurants, shops and a beach in the center. It is a great place to walk along the waterfront, have lunch overlooking the sea or take a boat trip. The proximity to the caves makes it a great base for exploring these unique attractions.

Cuevas del Drach

The Caves of the Dragon (Cuevas del Drach) are one of the most famous attractions in Mallorca. Here you will find the underground lake Martel, where live classical music concerts are held. The interior of the caves amazes with stalactites and stalagmites, creating a fairy-tale setting.

Cuevas del Hams i Dinosaurland

Cuevas del Hams are smaller but equally interesting caves, known for their spiral rock formations. Next to them is Dinosaurland, a theme park ideal for families with children, where you can admire life-size replicas of dinosaurs.

Manacor

Manacor, the second largest city in Mallorca, is famous for its production of Majorcan pearls and furniture. It is also the hometown of Rafael Nadal, where his tennis academy is located. Visit the local markets and historic churches to get a feel for the local atmosphere and try Balearic cuisine.
