Sa Pobla in Mallorca

Sa Pobla in Mallorca is quite a big town located in the north-central part of the island. A characteristic product of this place is potatoes. When I arrived in Mallorca and started to explore its traditions and culture, I discovered that agriculture has a huge impact on the locals. No wonder, just a few decades ago many of the locals made their living from agriculture. Porreres is famous for growing apricots, Banyalbufar for its endemic grape species, Soller for its delicious oranges, and Sa Pobla for its potatoes.

The annual “Feria de Patata” (potato festival) is held here. On the feria apart from stalls, live music and many other typical fiestas, you can eat dishes whose main ingredient is the local potato. Sa Pobla is a typical local town on Majorca, which is definitely worth a visit, especially if you spend your vacations in the vicinity of Alcudia, Playa de Muro, or Arta.

What to do in and around Sa Pobla in Mallorca?

If you decide to visit the town of Sa Pobla, I strongly recommend doing it on Sunday, when the market is laid out there. Feria de patatas, a festival in which the potato plays the main role, takes place in June, but the exact date is not exactly known – it varies. In the city it is worth visiting the church of Sant Antoni Abat, or the art museum Arte Contemporáneo Can Planes. Importantly, Sa Pobla is located within the s’Albufera natural park.

The natural park stretches for miles and it is an ideal place for people who are passionate about birds as there are a whole lot of them. Various species of birds are attracted to the wetlands which provide them with food and a good environment to live in. There are a lot of hiking trails as well as trails for cyclists and bikers.

Sa Pobla in Mallorca is a place where you can experience the island from the traditional agricultural side. In the vicinity of Sa Pobla there is one of the most beautiful beaches on Majorca, Playa de Muro, but it is also worth paying attention to places such as Pollensa, Formentor, Alcudia, Betlem, Cala na Clara, or Arta. Let us know in the comments if you have ever visited Sa Pobla and what you think about this place. Or maybe you managed to take part in a potato festival?
