Petra in Mallorca

Petra in Mallorca is another local town, located in the central part of the island. In addition to attracting visitors with its beautiful architecture and landscapes straight from the movies, Petra is also the birthplace of a local celebrity, Fray Junípero Serra – a Franciscan friar, doctor of philosophy and theology, beatified by Pope v. John Paul II, and canonized by Pope Francis. His house currently serves as a museum for visitors.

Apart from that, the town also boasts some nice trails for cyclists and hikers. There is also a local market held every Wednesday between 9 am and 1:30 pm where you can buy local products, souvenirs, clothes and much more. What draws Yacht Charter visitors to Petra is definitely the opportunity to get a closer look at Mallorcan culture and history. The locals make their living mainly from farming, many of them working in the larger cities nearby. It’s definitely a strongly religious society, which is why there are many religious activities taking place here.

What to do in and around Petra in Mallorca?

As I mentioned above, when visiting this city, you should also focus on the rural sphere of life of the locals. Take a walk around the area and learn about the daily life of the locals. What will surely draw your attention are the famous “molinos de viento” or windmills and the “cruces” or crosses which adorn the city in many places.

In the area, it is worth stopping in the town of Manacor, where you can do more shopping. You can also visit the famous Rafael Nadal museum or the pearl factory. Not far away are the famous caves of Cuevas del Drach and beautiful bays such as Cales de Mallorca, Cala Romantica and Cala Mendia. Towns worth visiting are definitely Sineu, or Montuiri.
