Alaro in Mallorca

Alaro in Mallorca is a town that is less touristy, but still worth a visit. Here you will find more locals than tourists or resident foreigners. The town is located in a valley, among the Serra de Tramuntana mountains. Going to Alaro you will get to know the local traditions, culture, architecture typical for Mallorca. This place attracts lovers of cycling, hiking and beautiful scenic routes. One of these places will definitely be Castillo de Alaro. Route to the castle takes about 2 hours one way and is not the easiest.

In Alaro itself, you’ll also find a whole bunch of local restaurants and on Saturdays, every week there are stalls set up where you can buy local products, souvenirs, clothes, fresh vegetables and fruits from all over Mallorca. The market opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 2 p.m. Alaro is also famous for its shoe making, so if you plan to buy something typical of Mallorca, you’ve come to the right place! Be sure to take a walk into town and get lost in the narrow streets. This is the best way to discover the town!

What to do in the Alaro area?

Be sure to visit the towns of Orient, Bunyola, and Binissalem. In autumn and winter go to the natural waterfalls of Salt des Freu, and if you have more time then I highly recommend you go to Jardines de Alfabia, Villa Raixa, Soller and Fornalutx. I consider the town of Alaro as one of those that fully reflects the local side of Majorca, it is not so focused on tourism. Here you will find peace, beautiful landscapes, relax and feel like in a fairy tale.
