Santuari de Cura in Mallorca is one of those places that attracts not only with its peace, but also with its rich history and spiritual atmosphere. Located at the top of Puig de Randa (the highest peak in the central part of the island), it offers breathtaking views that are reason enough to visit this place.

What makes Santuari de Cura in Mallorca unique??

  1. Rich history:
The sanctuary is associated with the figure of Ramon Llull, a medieval philosopher, mystic and writer who chose this space as his place of retreat. Thanks to him, this place became a center of spirituality and science.
  2. Architecture and function:
The sanctuary today serves not only a religious function, but also a tourist one. It is located here:
    • Chapel – a place of prayer and reflection.
    • Museum – dedicated to the life and work of Ramon Llull.
    • Hotel and restaurant – where you can taste traditional Mediterranean cuisine and spend the night in a unique setting. The restaurant has a great location in the garden and is incredibly romantic during sunset.
    • Gift shop – the perfect place to find local products.
  3. Views and nature:
Puig de Randa offers one of the best viewpoints on the island. In good weather, you can see almost the whole of Mallorca, from the Tramuntana Mountains to the coast. It is worth coming here early in the morning or in the evening, when the light creates a magical atmosphere. It is also a great place to watch the sunset.

What makes Santuari de Cura in Mallorca stand out??

Santuari de Cura, located at the top of Puig de Randa, is one of the most charming places in Mallorca. It rises to a height of 543 meters, being the highest point in the central part of the island. The mountain, one of the sacred places of Mallorca, has a rich history and an incredible atmosphere. From its top there is an incredible view of the island, which will surely remain in the memory of every visitor.

This place is not only impressive for its views, but also for its historical and spiritual value. In the area around the summit you can admire the remains of a defensive castle from Islamic times, and also feel the atmosphere of ascetic life that developed here after the conquest of Majorca by Jaime I. In the 14th century, the mountain became considered a religious space, being a place of prayer, contemplation and intellectual work. It was here that Ramon Llull experienced the enlightenment that began his philosophical and missionary activities. His dedication to the reform of the Church and the search for a new world order attracted many of his followers, who founded a hermitage and a scientific center in this place.

The history of the sanctuary dates back to the early 15th century, when the first chapel dedicated to Nuestra Señora de Cura was built here. A stone image of Our Lady from that period can be seen in the oratory located in the sanctuary. Over the centuries, the place has evolved, becoming an important spiritual and educational point. At the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, the Lulian Gymnasium was built here, which became one of the three main grammar centers in Majorca, managed by the city of Palma de Mallorca.

Santuari de Cura is not only a place of prayer, but also an important point on the cultural and intellectual map of Mallorca, where history, spirituality and science combine into one fascinating whole. Whether you are interested in history, religion or just want to admire the views – this place will definitely make an impression on you.

Santuari de Cura in Mallorca – history and curiosities

The Santuari de Cura has for centuries combined three dimensions: Marian devotion, Lulican devotion and knowledge. Due to its location, in the centre of the island, and due to its physical characteristics, it was the centre of important religious ceremonies linked to agriculture, such as the “blessing of the fruits”, which date back to the Middle Ages. After the closure of the Gymnasium, the Sanctuary entered a period of decay and neglect. During this time, the celebration of the cult of the Virgin and other ceremonies were refused there, and the priests in charge of the sanctuary were unable to maintain the premises. Over the course of seventy years, the buildings deteriorated considerably. In the summer of 1913, the Bishop of Majorca, Pere Joan Campins, commissioned the Third Order Regular of St Francis to renovate the buildings and restore the veneration of the Virgin and the devotion to Ramon Llull.

Thus, over the last hundred years, this order has transformed the place into a modern sanctuary. Construction of the current monastery, guest rooms and rooms for the brothers began in 1947. The image of the Virgin Mary received a papal coronation in 1955. The current restaurant and rooms of the main monastery building have been open since 1956. On site, you can taste the Randa Liqueur, which has been created by the brothers for years.

Okolica Healing Sanctuary in Majorca

The spacious garden surrounding the place welcomes visitors with great peace, and the promenade leading to the temple invites you to reflect and relax in the picturesque surroundings. The surroundings are breathtaking, reaching to the horizon, offering a panoramic view of the entire island. If you want to feel like you are on top of the world, this is where you will find this extraordinary view.

The access to the sanctuary is moderately easy, which makes the trip to this place a pleasure, even for those who do not like difficult trails. The road is a bit winding, but easily passable. A small, free parking lot provides convenience, and the road to the top itself is not difficult at all. Interestingly, there are various tours leading to the mountain, and one of the most unique is the one that takes place on horses. This is something that adds a truly idyllic charm to this place. Several beautiful horses that can be met at the top make it easy to imagine what this place looked like in the past – with all its ancient mystique and peace.

At the very top, in addition to the magical sanctuary, there is also a Doppler Radar, which plays an important role in studying atmospheric conditions. Thanks to its location, at the highest point in the center of Mallorca, the radar has excellent conditions for monitoring air movement, detecting clouds and analyzing their speed. This is an interesting fact that adds even more mystery to this place.

However, Santuari de Cura is not just a viewpoint or a place with radars. It is also a space full of history, beautiful architecture and peace, which draws you in and stays in your memory for a long time. I recommend this place to anyone looking for not only aesthetic experiences, but also spiritual respite. It is a perfect combination of nature, history and views that are really worth seeing.
