Some time ago a residential discount for travel in Spain was introduced
Residential discount for travel in Spain. One of the really big advantages of living in Majorca – apart from landscapes and beautiful weather – is the possibility of traveling 75% cheaper than others. How it’s possible? Residents of Balearic Islands (and not only) can apply at the office for a document enabling travel with a resident discount within Spain.
Residential discount for travel in Spain – for several years, residents of the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla can apply for it.
It amounts to about 75% of the ticket value. Once before you had to show a document proving that you have a given discount. Currently, all you need is your NIE number, which you provide when buying tickets. The discount is automatically calculated. You can use it for airline tickets and ferries. The resident travel discount is refunded from the state budget.
It was implemented because the inhabitants of the islands are distant from the continent. This is to help islanders move more freely to the continent. The discount is available to everyone who has the status of Balearic, Canary, Ceuta or Melilla residents. The condition of using the discounts is that the ticket you buy must be for a direct round trip. Between home and anywhere in Spain and vice versa.
How do I apply for a residential discount for travel in Spain?
To obtain a residential discount certificate, you must have a green TARJETA CIUDUDANA card. This card indicates that you are a resident of the Balearic Islands. For this you will need your passport or ID card. I recommend photocopies of ID cards – as many people as many requirements. With these documents you go to the nearest Ayuntamiento. They issue you a certificate there. It is valid for six months from the date of issue. It is possible that you will have to pay 1 or 2 euros for printing the certificate.
In my opinion this is a huge plus.
In winter, Majorca may seem boring at times. Especially if you spent so much time exploring it. And we all know that all of Spain is worth a visit. So why not use something like this? Mega idea. I really liked it because I love Spain. In winter, tickets are cheap anyway, but why not have them cheaper? Of course, it works on a similar principle as our Polish 500+. Ticket prices have risen slightly so that airlines do not lose so much discount. However, they are still just ridiculously cheap at times. Tickets to Spain can sometimes be ticked for 14 euros, but no less. Wow!
