Valldemosa – why Chopin loved it?

Valldemosa steals the heart of every person who visit it. Charming streets, full of bustle of people. Stalls with fresh fruits and vegetables. Cats strolling next to you, hurrying to leftovers at a nearby restaurant. The nicest thing in Valldemosa are all those pots hung on most of the walls in Valldemosa. Many doors are decorated with religious pictures and are surrounded by beautiful greenery and flowers. Also You can buy some hand-painted dishes. They are painted in bright colors, attracting attention from a distance. Flags are hung on balconies and walls. The same can be seen in Sóller.

What do the flags mean?

One of the flags is a red cross on a white background and the other is a white crescent on a red background. Majorca as an island was often subjected to pirate attacks. These flags are a symbol of the courage of the inhabitants of Majorca, who had to prove it during the battles with Turkish and Algerian pirates. For this reason, cities such as Valldemosa and Sóller are located at a safe distance from the ports. It was supposed to protect them against pirate invasions. History says that the flags also symbolize the courage of women who fought side by side in battle with men, protecting their homes. Flags and jugs are definitely the hallmark of Valldemosa.

What did Chopin do in Valldemosa?

The museum of Chopin arouses great interest in Valldemosa. The entrance costs only 4 euros (only for visiting the cell, while 10 euros for visiting the rest with a guide and a mini concert). Chopin slept in an old monastery, now they use it as a museum. In the cell there is also his piano. The cell itself did not make a huge impression on me. The garden was a bigger attraction for me, which was for use by Chopin. He had a view of the panorama of the mountains. In the cell the piano is the biggest attraction. I think it is worth paying 4 euros, even for the views. However, the cell itself is much less interesting. I definitely recommend a trip for 10 euros to Chopin’s admirers and his compositions. Chopin loved Valldemosa, he spent about six weeks there – I even heard that with a lover…

Why choose Valldemosa for your trip?

Valldemosa is beautiful. The town is very romantic, worth recommending. It is full of charming cafes and restaurants. All of Valldemosa is crowded and bustling, but in a positive way. It fills you with positive energy. A beautiful place for photos, for romantic dinners and walks. Near Valldemosa, the town of Puerto de Valldemosa is located. You can go there to take a break from the hustle and bustle and swim a bit. However, I warn you that the road there is quite narrow and the port is very intimate :). We highly recommend you visit Valldemose, and Deja and Sóller and Puerto de Sóller for guidance!
