Museo la Granja in Mallorca

Museo la Granja in Mallorca is, in my opinion, a place worth visiting if like to learn about local history, culture, cuisine and beautiful views. The museum is located right next to the beautiful local town of Esporles in the southwest of the island. A visit to the Museo la Granja will allow you to discover traditional Mallorca and learn about its heritage. This place offers not only a tour of the building’s walls decorated with artwork, but also allows you to experience the creation of local crafts from the inside.

From the 10th to the 17th century, crafts were made at Museo la Granja and the people who lived here led a rich agricultural life. Crafts made here include weaving, oil making, and paper making. The mansion itself also contains the typical rooms of a normal house, such as kitchens, bedrooms, entertainment rooms, but also some unusual ones, such as a torture chamber. The building itself is already very impressive, but that is not the only attraction offered at Museo la Granja.

Another part of the property worth visiting is the local gardens. They are lush and have natural waterfalls, as well as a stream that obviously runs through the beautiful Serra de Tramuntana mountains. There are also farm animals in the gardens of the museum. This is a great attraction for children as well, who can not only learn about the place, but also enjoy the wild creatures with their eyes. Museo la Granja is not only a place where tourist visits take place, but weddings, banquets and other celebrations are also organized here.

What are the opening hours and entry prices for Museo la Granja?

Before we get into prices and opening hours, I’d like to point out to you that in addition to the gardens and the property, you’ll also have the opportunity to see first-hand how local artisans work. There is a blacksmith, a turner, a potter, a weaver and several other interesting characters who will definitely teach you something! The gardens contain many species of plants and animals typical of Mallorca. One that is definitely worth noting is the black pig, which can be found very rarely. It is from this species of pig that local meat products such as sobrassada, llonagnissa, camaiot are produced. Interestingly, at the Museo la Granja you will have the opportunity to taste local meat products, cheese, jams, fig bread, or local wine.

The Museo la Granja in Mallorca also has beautiful terraces and a restaurant on its grounds, which can be used during the museum’s opening hours.
